Tuners

Could someone please explain to Me the difference beteween geared and friction tuners? As I read posts in this forum I get the feeling that geared tuners are better, but I don't know the difference
Not even sure if My uke's have geared or friction tuners....

Thanks! But how can I tell if I have geared or friction tuners Myself? Is there a clear visual difference?

It's pretty easy. Can you see gears? Or, failing that are the tuner knobs in line with, or at right angles to the string posts? Do you need to tighten a little screw on the end of the knob to avoid slippage? All these are pretty obvious signs of what tuners you have.
