Hey all! :)

I know that there's a very active group out in Harvard, MA, but I don't own a car and it would be great if there was a group here in Boston. Anyone?

I'm pretty much just a beginner...mainly looking to tag along and up my game a bit.

Thanks!

Hi

I live in Brockton, MA and am new to ukulele so I'm just as curious. I own a car but I am afraid of driving in Boston (inside of Rt. 128). If you can venture out, go visit Music Emprium in Lexington/Arlington. They started to carry Kamaka ukuleles among with other nice ones. Worth spending an afternoon and when you do, make sure to talk to Tim. He is a ukulele guru there.

Cheers
Chief

Also thanks for the Music Emporium tip, Chief -- my brother & sis-in-law live in Lexington, so I can sneak out for a shopping trip on my next visit!

Hi

Danno - I will try to make it. End of semester, exams piling up. The same old excuses. Plus, I am scared of driving in Boston.....

Edna"Sarah"Million - Leave your credit card at home when you visit Music Emporium. The store is sooooo nice.

Cheers
Chief

Chief, maybe you can find someone in the group who lives near you to carpool with?

Also, you could park at an outlying T station and take the T (it's a bit of walking to get from the closest T stop to the meetup location in the South End, but it may be better than driving).

!!! Just wanted to let any other Boston-area UUers know that the first Boston meet-up last night was fantastic! Really fun, and something for every skill level (I think -- can't vouch for the more experienced folks, but I'm a newbie and I hung in there just fine!)

We'll be meeting up every 2 weeks, so check the link (in danno's post above) for details.

Man! I'm kinda bummed that I leave to go home for summer before the next meeting, otherwise I'd totally come down and join! If this group is still going once class is back in the fall, I'll definitely be there!

I lived in Cambridge for a year, and always wondered why anyone there needed a car with the T going almost anywhere I ever needed to go. Unfortunately, I wasn't into ukes when I lived there, but if I had been I would have been trying to somehow get to know Craig Robertson's Ukulele Noir (http://www.ukulelenoir.com/pages/performers.html) group if at all possible. I know Marc O (http://www.jazzukes.com/) from the group also teaches uke over Skype when he has time away from his real job, and is definitely a good contact to have.

Just throwing my hat into this ring...
I went to the 2nd meeting in Boston last night and it's a fantastic group. I'm so glad Danno was able to organize something closer to the city, that trip to Harvard was a no-go for me.
Highly recommend!

Hey, and don't forget there's a group that meets in Somerville on every third Thursday. They meet at nursing home and it's part playing for fun and part playing for the residents.

Oh, forgot to say their next get-together is May 27. (I'm not sure to whom that email address belongs, but you might drop a line before you show up to make sure everything is going as scheduled.)
