I reacently caught up with some old friends.....which inspired this Schmaltz!

Every 2nd Wednesday we'd get our Giros & go out n get bladdered (= unemploymnt/social security cheque =very drunk)

My lovely friend Claire is playing the 2nd uke after a 2min crash course!)

Anglicisations for my Hawaiian friends:

Sometimes old pals drive me mental (= old friends make me go mad)
But they're friends & I guess that's what counts.
Nane a them ever hurt no-one (=None of them ever hurt anyone)
And That, well that makes me proud.

Don't hold me up like a hero
('cause I got out)
& Don't put me down like a clown
('cause I've changed)
Just let me know that we're still friends
& you're glad that I still come around.

Last was pure dead brilliant (= very, very good)
Like the 1st time we ever got drunk.
We blathered oan about birds we wance fancied (=talked about old flames)
And sung the auld songs we wance sung (=sung sectarian songs)

You held me up like a hero
Then you put me down like a clown
You let me know you still loved me
And that you're glad that I still come around.

I told you that you wer my hero
With your wife, your kids, job & your house
'n we talked fur hooors about auld times (=talked for hours about old times)
Growing up in our working class town.

We stagerred blind drunk doon the auld roads
Surprised at how little things hud changed
Peed in shop doors & wrote on the auld wall (=urinated!!!)
I guess some things will aye be the same! (=always)

Me 'n you will always be heroes,
We'll aye be a right pair o clowns, (= a couple of idiots)
And I guess we'll always remember,
Our youth in that working class town.

So, let's do our best to be heroes,
But lets no' forget that we're clowns.
& Every now 'n then lets remember
Our youth in that working class town.....
