Just reading another thread about Low G sets got me thinking. I really like unwound Low-G strings. Something about sliding along a wound string kinda interrupts the sound for me. But I also have heard Django and Joe Pass and other guitar greats who seemed to do just fine with wound strings and you can hear the wound ridging when they play very clearly.

In some songs I have slides up and down; to my ear, on a wound string it just doesn't sound right to me.

So my question is: those of you who like wound low g, does that sound of your finger sliding not bother you at all? Do you even notice it?

They have gunk you can put on the string to make that squeal softer if that's the only thing that bothers you. I just don't like wound strings in general.

I kind of like the sound wound strings make, but then I'm from a guitar background and ( especially in ki ho' alu) the "squeaks" are kind of clues as to what the player is doing.
