I've been waiting for my first custom ukulele for about half a year now, and I've finally seen it's face for the first time...

(pssst! GX! That's the headstock, face isn't showing.) :p

Seriously though, I've never been excited about slotted headstocks (nothin' against 'em either) but the way the dark overlay and the lighter wood of the neck work together is pretty yummy.

And the way the tuner buttons match the lighter wood is way yummy.

So... you got any more pics?

Well, I've always thought the face is on the head, but that's a minor detail isn't it? :D

I'm waiting for more pictures as well.

Thanks guys. I hope I'm not being too much of a show-off here. I'm just really excited about it after the semi-long wait (actually, 6-7 months isn't bad for a custom uke).

It's made by William King. Here are a couple more pics he's put up:

Very nice GX, William always seems to have very stunning curly Koa. Nice Spruce top and headstock too, but theres more to it than that.. wait till you get in your hands and marvel at the overall flawless fit, finish, and sound of the uke. looks like Worth brown strings? On our Cypress/Koa LS tenor, he used higher tension Saverez strings. 6-7 months wait time is quite fast.. my Spruce/Rosewood LS concert took longer than that. I know the feeling of waiting patiently trying to restrain the anticipation at this stage. :p

Ah, it's a William King.

Well then, the best is yet to come because, beautiful as it is, it's going to sound even better.

I'd suggest you be sitting down when you first play it because your knees are going to go all weak and stuff.

It's actually the chinese character of my last name (I'm from Taiwan). But it also translates exactly to King in english, so I thought that was a nice touch for this uke.

i had a feeling that was the case but didn't want to assume. most of the chinese people i know have the other wong (huang) character that stands for yellow instead of the king you have on your headstock. looks pretty GD sweet as an inlay!

Hey, George --
It looks beautiful. Too bad you won't have it on Sunday, if you're going to Como Park. Please don't make fun of my Uke.
Hope to see you Sunday.

Hey, I never make fun of any ukes! :)

Well, I could make it to Como Park if it rains on Sunday (I have softball otherwise). If I make it I'll bring something else for you and others to try.

Hey GX, now that you've had a few day's with it, how's your new King tenor treating you? I was just looking at the pictures on William's site again (now that it is back up again) and boy oh boy, is that one stunning ukulele or what! :D

I REALLY love it so far.:D To me it is clearly superior in sound and feel compared to the Koa Works tenor I have, which I had previously thought was not possible (yes, I have a lot to learn). I was just hoping that the King would match the KW in sound and feel and I'd be very very happy. The fact that I actually like it better in those regards (the looks goes without saying, since I specified all appointments on the King) pretty much blows me away.

When I have some time I will post some written and video impressions of this ukulele on my blog.
