How fast is your ukulele?
According to Wertheim, the velocity of sound travels through Wood at the following rates:-
I guess it to be feet per second.

I guess it means that if you can play faster than the velocity, then the sound simply piles up and continues to play after you have left the room.

Given the speed of sound through air at 20 deg. C is something like 1,125 ft. per second, there's some astonishing phenomena going on with poplar, maple and acacia etc, eh?
Even more amazing, the speed of sound through iron is 17,390 ft. per sec.
Which means the guy making the uke out of the Briggs and Stratton iron cover thing is probably really on to something.
As applied to my ukulele playing it means if I could manage a direct connect between koa and my ear drum, I could hear and correct my mistakes long before my audience ever hears them.
If that were the case, would there be any mistakes? And finally, we have answered the age old question; If a man speaks in a forest and there is no woman around to hear him is he still wrong? The answer is yes, cause she'll probably here him through the trees before he even hears it himself.

WoW! I could swear I posted on this thread yesterday and Fahrner replied. I didn't smoke any funny stuff either!

Yeah, the forum went "funny" for a while yesterday.

You can say that again!!! When I tried to log on yesterday, Avast popped up and told me there was a 'Trojan Horse' trying to get into my computer, but not to worry, Avast had taken care of it. Not being IT-savvy, I'll take Avast's word for it. It seems to work OK now.
