Hello everyone, I've been wanting to expand my styles of playing... moving on to an egyptian-like sound...

So I've figured out how to get the Arabian-style scale (you know, egyptian stylezzz haha), but what are some chords to go along with that sound?

To get the scale i went to this great tool: http://www.studybass.com/tools/chord-scale-note-printer/
and chose phyrgian dominant as the scale type.

Thanks for the help!!
=D

Not sure what chords to use, but thanks for the link! My wife's dad is Lebanese and listens to Oud music (Arabic lute) a lot, and I've always wanted to figure that scale out!

Ok, I don't know much about Eastern music, but my impression is that they don't really use chords as accompaniment. That said, the phrygian mode goes over a minor chord (Em if you are playing E phrygian - C major scale).

Trad Arabic music doesn't use chords. Sometimes there's a drone on the first scale tone. If you're basing your scale on the Phrygian mode, which is closely related to the Hijaz scale, the related chords in E Phrygian would be e minor, F major, G major, a minor, b minor, C major, d minor. Of those you'd probably use em, bm and dm most.

Yep, we're not big on chords here. (I'm an Arab)

Basically, what darkwater said. I've never attempted to play any traditional arabic stuff on my uke, but if you want a better idea of the theory, check out this site: http://www.maqamworld.com/

Exactly. And if this is any help, you may get some pointers. Of course, you might have to slow it waaaaaaay down!
