I have tried to get the warmth of analog recording on digital equipment from the very beginning of hard drive recording and DAW use, but, with no REAL success when compared to old studio tapes in a side-by-side comparison. While digital has improved a ton, there is still some way to go when you play the results together.

I opted for a Tascam 4-track cassette-tape recording system and mixed the acoustic instrument and vocal tracks into the digital recorder (ZOOM MRS-8) via an analog port. I then took the SD card from the ZOOM and plugged it into my Dell laptop. I did the final mix in MixCraft 4.x and saved the file in both wave and MP3 format.

Here is the result of the AAD (analog-analog-digital) recording method...

The song was an original I wrote in 1992 and many of you have heard it in some previous recording, but, the song itself is not the focus here, it is the recording method.

I am pretty happy with the results and plan to start using this method a lot more.
