I don't even watch the show and I can't stand her. I saw her on Dancing with the stars and well... she's a terrible person.

Really? And orphan those kids? I guess you have no idea what it cost to take care of kids. Props to her for doing what she has to do to provide for her kids and not rely on welfare or the government.

She is definitely compensated very well for her various television endeavors. As long as she/they don't do anything stupid, those kids should be set.

I can't stand her, but I like Jon even less. But I admittedly have a real soft spot for cute little Aaden (the one in the glasses).

I found their original show oddly fascinating. There were moments when I thought both Jon and her could have handled things better, but what do I know...I've never raised one kid, never mind 8. It's one of those shows I'm not really sure why I enjoy watching, but when I heard Kate+8 was happening, I was actually kind of intrigued. I wonder how she got around the court order from Jon that prevents their kids from being on TV. (Or at least that's what I understood it to be.)

Not entirely sure exactly how she did it. But I dont' know whether Jon's court order said just that either.... but the thing is, this show has tore the family apart, wouldn't you say? I'd like to think it wasn't all Jon's fault... but rather both of the parent's fault.

The thing is, why in the world would you take the show foward after these recent incidents? She even said herself that one of her kids called one of the babysitters, "mom".Would you consider taking a show forward if you had your ... offspring call someone else your position?

Just take all of her glam away, all of her money, and let's see if she would still do the show. I never thought of her as the star of the show... nor did I think Jon was either. I watched for the children really... but after all that crap, what was the point. And I don't get why anyone who likes her, actually likes her. I mean, she's not super mom, she's got a "super team" of "super baby-sitters"...

^Yeah, what you said makes a lot of sense. I agree that it does seem that babysitters are doing a lot of the work now. I think when they first started it was really just the two of them coping and I liked them a lot better then, but now it seems that it's turned into "stardom" and Kate being away a lot.
I thought part of the reason the show ended was also because they thought (or at least Jon thought) it would be better for their kids and less stress on the family (and I think perhaps they should have ended it sooner).
I dunno if it's the best thing for the kids to be starting it again, but I did enjoy watching the show.

I've never followed the show, but I did catch one of the "earlier" episodes of Jon & Kate Plus Eight, and there's a huge contrast in her demeanor between then and now. She bugs the hell outta me, but whatever, there are worse folks out there.

She does have a pretty big following, though (apparently), so she's milking every opportunity she's got. Book tours, her stint on Dancing, "Kate Plus 8" AND "Twist of Kate" on TLC, tabloid stories (the majority of which, by the way, are set up by her publicist, so it's not like she's entirely victimized by these things), etc.

There's a difference between providing for your kids and providing for your ego. It's obvious now how much her priorities have shifted.

It's unfortunate but I see this a lot. I know several families where the nanny is called "mom" or something similar and the kids will go to them first.

Very true. Money, fame and power corrupts.

Truthfully, I've never seen one show that she's been on. Is she going to win mother of the year? Seriously doubt it. Are there mothers out there a million times worse. You better believe it.

but why get all judge-y on her? Why do you run her over with a really big car? Turn the channel if you don't like her.

I don't think he is actually getting all judge-y, I think he is joking more than anything. Of course I know him so I know that he isn't a terrible person. he just has a ssense of humor that is a little different than most.

Deach, I don't entirely understand your way of thinking.. you're hot, you're cold, sometimes you're just plain bi-polar. It's not like you've not made judgmental posts before either.

What's the big deal? I don't like her, no wait, I really don't like her. And I don't see why people admire her. OF course there are crack heads and meth addicts out there being mothers, but I think it's a fundamental belief they are horrible people. But what makes Kate Great? She had 8 kids... she's never at home... she doesn't fulfill the definition of mother you and I would think... I mean c'mon!
What's there to admire...? money, fame? the ability to have copious amounts of children? The ability to ruin a marriage in fear of spoiling her image? I don't see what's there... and that's why I think she'd be better under a car than anywhere else.

Well, this is the way I see it. Kate Gosselin may have silly hair and an obnoxious gradient higher than typewriters chewing on tin foil while being kicked down the stairs, but at least she's not the Duggars. That show makes me want to simultaneously tear out my uterus and tie those girls down in order to forcibly inject feminist literature straight into their bloodstreams. And that is a true story.

They've got some major issues too... Going to need a much bigger vehicle for their unfortunate splatter. I will have to make a call to:

Yep. Those Duggar folks make me crazy.

But that's America for you - mostly shitty people doing mostly shitty things, often to their kids. If there were ever a need to prove that ours is a culture in decline, I'd vote these two reality shows as exhibit #1. One is superstitious nut jobs giving their kids tickets to crazy town, the other is petty gossip fodder with no value.

I opt for the "rather poke my eyes out than watch a show about 'real' people raising too many kids" approach, but clearly I'm not the target market.

Can I add "Amish in the City" to that exhibit? Does anyone else remember that show? One of the girls referred to eggs as chicken abortions.

Listen, I will not have a mockery made of chicken eggs, those baby chickens could have grown up to be chicken PRESIDENT. So you can take your smart aleck remarks and eat them with your baby chicken genocide and your brutally murdered sausage. GEEZ.

;)

That's unfortunately the only thing I can remember about the show, and I can't find it anywhere online. I think that comment just stood out to me for it's complete absurdity. I'm also pretty sure it was not made by one of the Amish kids.

This is what the people want, apparently. Pure dysfunctionality. It's terrible, but this is where we're at now.

If I'm going to watch anything on TLC nowadays, it's either going to be Cake Boss or LA Ink, and even then, only if I'm really bored.

I keep hearing Cake Boss actually isn't horrible, but I find myself avoiding all the shows on TV that make Jersey look like one giant extension of NYC, only with more guidos and bad haircuts. What's with the sudden proliferation of Jersey shows? And why do they only cast guidos?

Vindelanda

Yeah, I watch Cake Boss when it's on and I don't have anything else to do. It's actually rather entertaining. I find it hilarious how every show follows the pattern of a) they get an order and they don't have a lot of time to fill it b) something goes wrong c) Buddy's sisters get mad about something d) cake works out e) everyone loves it. xD I think a lot of TLC shows have patterns like that, though. I do find it really neat to see how they make the cakes, some of the stuff they do is awesome!

I KNOW! I don't get it either! You only find those types of people in that ratio in Brooklyn and South Philly. It's terrible for me now if I run into people from other states who expect me to act like the cast from Jersey Shore since I'm of Italian descent (and boy, do I look it!). So irritating. But Cake Boss is more "Godfather" than "guido" since they're just a family from Hoboken. The Jersey thing isn't even played out; I hear more NYC references and sometimes I forget that they're even in New Jersey.

Their cakes are so cool. Sure, there are other folks who make incredible cakes (Mike's Amazing Cakes (http://www.mikesamazingcakes.com/) comes to mind), but the whole family is in on the cake-making process and there's always a really creative output. I imagine that each one of those cakes is enough to put anyone into a diabetic coma, though (all that fondant... oof). The giant carob/dog-safe cake they made for the one animal shelter was really sweet (pun not intended).

I've never watched the shows about people with too many kids, but I have to think even THOSE shows aren't as bad as the one where the parents dress their 4 year old girls like prostitutes and make them compete in "beauty pageants". I've never seen that show either (only commercials for it), but its very existence makes me think people ought to have to pass some sort of test or be sterilized. I'm kidding.. but not really.

Ohh, I've watched those from time to time. It's really sad, especially because the kids almost always seem to really hate it. I guess if the kid wanted to do it and the parents were less dead set on winning and more interested in their kids having fun, it would almost be okay, but still. The makeup/costumes they wear are, in my opinion, way too much for a 5 year old.

I agree. I was going to talk about that, but I forgot. The pageants themselves are just terrible. I watched some documentary special thing about them one time, and the moms are just so zealous about it, it's borderline child abuse. Some of them put their girls on low-calorie diets (and the way they do them they're basically undernourishing them), make them wear corsets to bed (for that hourglass figure that would otherwise be unattainable until puberty), dye their hair, have them wear false teeth (that's probably the creepiest), give them antibiotics for acne reduction and meds to control perspiration... maybe not all of them at once for every girl, but those have definitely happened at some point. It's infuriating.

I'm not saying the parents had anything to do with it, but the Jon Benet Ramsey murder happened in Boulder not long after we moved to Colorado, and having to see pictures on the news of that poor little girl dressed and made-up like a 20something-year old fashion model was just heart-breaking. I can't help but think if she had just been a normal little kid, she wouldn't have attracted the attention of whoever it was that killed her. I suppose that might be naive of me. I mean, I know that a lot of normal little kids have bad things happen to them. But having a six year old who looks like she's getting ready for a Playboy shoot is just not good.

Sure, Kate is not leeching off welfare. But if she was really doing this for her kids, she could have stopped a long time ago and be comfortably living off the interest of what they've already made. She is doing this for her own fame and attention. This came off of a blog posted in 2008, and I'm not sure how true the numbers are but by now she probably does have this much:

They supposedly get 65,000/episode...x 50= $3,250,000.
They supposedly do 2 speaking engagements/week at a charge of $25,000/which would be $400,000/month x 10 (give them 2 months off...hee,hee)= $20,000,000...that would now be $23,250,000 + selling pics at $20 each to how many people?..est.(theater of 5,000 people) if each bought one picture that is $100,000/speaking engagement at approx. 80/year= $8,000,000 okay now we are at a total of $31,000,000+love offerings and stuff that is sent to them, plus all of the freebies from sponsors.

And I hate her hair. :)
