Looks like Mr. Schuster on "Glee" will be playing a Kamaka ukulele next week on the season finale. Sweet, the side of it looks like my Kamaka. :)

I'm gonna guess by the mouth formations, and the possible C chord he is playing, that they will be doing over the rainbow? Any other guesses?

You are right! The episode features the cast doing "Faithfully" by Journey, "Bohemian Rhapsody," and on the uke, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." You can hear a snippet of the "Rainbow" version at 2:33 in this Youtube video. http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/watch?v=lxy0wrQSEvU

Okay, I know way too much about this. What can I say? I'm a Gleek.

Hiya, the picture was on Facebook, on the Glee Facebook fan page. Alas, the Bohemian Rhapsody is not on the uke, only "Rainbow" will be I think. But to hear a great version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" on a ukulele, check out Jake Shimabukuro's version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snPQ1z5FoqQ

Apparently, the actor (Matthew Morrison) has been doing live versions of the "Rainbow" on the uke during some of the Glee concerts.

Iz... Jason Castro... now this. Has SOtR officially replaced "Tiptoe" as the stereotypical ukulele song?

If you're referring to the Tiny Tim version of "Tiptoe," then one can only hope.

WOOHOO!!! I guessed it without even knowing! I win the prize! Dunno what the prize is, but I WIN!

Yes, I do think SOTR is now the defining UKE song of our generation.

better this than I'm Yours, I think. When I play SOTR around the fire it's the one song everyone sings along. It makes people happy.

I would agree the SOTR (It took me 2 minutes to realize what this stood for) is becoming the Ukulele Stnadard. Ii just made me cringe when one of the comments for the video was "I'm glad they are doing the Jason Castro version. :P

Haha I guessed by the shape of Puck and Scheuster's lips that they were playing SOTR. I could practically hear the "Oooooh"s :D I can't wait for that episode to air!

I'm constantly asked to play this. Sadly, the Em chord still hates me (Guess what I'm practicing tonight!).

It's definitely the new standard song.

Now if only I could play it!

At least SOTR is a beautiful song. The PERFORMANCE of Tiptoe that people remember is horrific. I'm much happier with Bruddah Iz associations than Tiny Tim ones.

And yes, I'm asked to play SOTR a lot. And I oblige.

OH! I love GLEE! This just makes it even better. I have a vintage Kamaka that is being restored as we speak. Now I am even more anxious to finally get to play it. They have a great sound. I'm hoping that once I get it back, that urge to drive down to Mainland and purchase a new mango soprano will subside a bit... Thanks for the update!

Just caught it on TV-- I had no idea there was going to be a uke and I squealed, yes, squealed.

P.S. This means that uke has been featured on my two favorite shows (the other being Bones).

According to this article (in the newly formed Honolulu Star Advertiser -- sigh, rest in peace my beloved Honolulu Advertiser!), the Kamaka ukulele makes a return appearance next season as well, as stated by Fred Kamaka, Jr. http://tgif.staradvertiser.com/archives/4073

Woot! Just saw it, and didn't know it was going to be on cuz I suck at keeping up with threads. :-)

Okay, okay, so who played along? I did! (several times.. lol)

I gotta say, my hopes were not high for some reason. But I thought it was a bang-up version. Similar to the Iz arrangement, but with what sounded (at first listen anyway) like a few chords from the "traditional" version tossed in. The guitar was obviously put in there because Morrison's strumming skills are not up to Iz levels, but it still sounded nice. Loved the Cmaj7 at the end. :-)

The Journey medley was also a pleasant surprise. They really put a lot of very clever musical stuff in there. The "Any Way You Want It/Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" mash-up was genius.

Now there's no "Lost", no "Glee"... I'm now in TV limbo until "Mad Men" starts back up. :-)

I'm also lost without "Lost" and "Glee," but for me, "Dexter" will be my television salvation. How soon unti the fall????

the Em chord still hates me

Uncle E, If you play your G the two-finger way, barring the bottom 3 strings on the 2nd fret, it makes switching to the Em so easy. You just add a third finger.

Actually, that's what I'm using to tide myself over. I'm catching up on season 4 of "Dexter." I'm about halfway through--don't tell me what happens! :-)

Maybe you should catch up on "Mad Men" while waiting for "Dexter"? We'll balance each other out that way.

It was a nice enough version. Most tunes on that show have all the soul of a paper bag full of boiled peas, but this was ok.

Is it me or have the songs gotten much more auto-tuned and over-processed this year? Hard for me to even listen anymore. It was kind of a clever show in the first few episodes, but now it's just sort of a shark-jumping in slow motion to me. (Gleeks may comence beating up on me... I must not be the target market)

Nice to see the kamaka though.

One of the things that I do love about the show is that it IS, in fact, slow-motion shark jumping... and revels in it!
(The thing I love most is Mike O'Malley's character (I KNOW! Who'da thunk ANYONE would say those words!) and his interaction with Kurt, his son. Those scenes, by far, are some of the best on the subject of being a parent of a gay teen that I've ever seen. They deserve kudos for them.)

Last night actually impressed me as they a) kept the autotuning to a minimum and b) showed that they legitimately didn't deserve the win over VA. It was nice to see.

I just hope that they change it up and get rid of the autotune. Lea Michele doesn't need it.

*ahem*

I mean... uh...

I'm a dude! I don't watch those kinda shows! Urrrr... hurrrrr...

Grumpy, I too am a Gleek and the autotuning does get pretty unbearable.

I re-watched the pilot episode recently and definitely noticed how (relatively) subtle the Autotune was. It pretty much got bad from episode two onward. There have been a few spots where Cory Monteith sounded like Lil Wayne.

Jonathan Groff and Lea Michelle need Autotune about as much as Jane Lynch needs platform shoes.
