I just got an Ohana sopranino, cute little thing, but I was looking at the wood and it doesn't look or sound like any mahogany I've seen before.

Is it some other strain of mahogany, or something else? Seems pretty soft for mahogany.

My concert Ohana is mahogany. In comparison to other models I've tried: Mainland, Koalaha, Kala, it is very light but very loud!

Which model did you get? I have a SK-35, and it is solid Mahogany, and looks like Mahogany. Even though I have always liked the looks of Mahogany, it isn't known for it's estetic beauty. It's a really nice wood, but always been considered very plain looking and not so exciting grained by most..

yup - some mahogany can look very dull to be honest - good tonewood though
