Set-up questions

A couple of quick set-up questions.
1: Do you notch the saddle for the strings to sit in?
2: Taking into account the different thicknesses of the strings, do you try to align the tops of the strings or the bottoms, in the same plane?

Thanks! I wondered if the strings slid side to side on the saddle when you strummed vigorously. I guess it's not a problem.

I've only had one or two ukulele that I was forced to notch the saddle. Given that the saddle slot, depth, and string break angle are done well, there's usually enough tension to keep them from sliding around. Most saddles will eventually develop a small indentation from the constant pressure of the strings, which helps to keep them in place.
