It took me all day yesterday.

and recorded about 7 parts.

No. It's spinning on the wrong axis. In order to skip along the surface of the water, the stone spins on the axis which is perpendicular (or nearly so) to the surface of the water and to the direction of travel of the stone. The spin of the stone causes the stone to bounce off of the surface of the water.
