Anyone have one? I phoned a local music store, and they said they carry them for around $40, but after searching Mahalo website and the internet, I could only find one website about it!

Is it discontinued or something? That's weird. If anyone has it, is it good?

Update: searched EVERYWHERE around the internet, and still couldn't find it! Is it a fake possibly?

I can't find it in the current Saga catalog...the closest to this would be the U-320 series, which list from $60 (soprano) up to $96 (baritone)...

Thanks, Is the U-320 any good then?

Well, how do you define "good"? :)

It comes with an instructional DVD & gigbag, all mahogany construction, rosewood fretboard & bridge, nickel frets, abalone dots, gold plated pegs. Would say it's decent for a beginner, but I've never played or even handled one. List on the soprano is $59.95, I could probably get one to you for $50 shipped if you were interested (essentially my cost when everything is factored in). Check it out here: http://www.sagamusic.com/catalog/details.asp?ProductID=U-320&CategoryID=2&FamilyID=4&BrandID=22

Thanks, but no thanks. I'll get the $40 at my local music shop. I appreciate your help!

I just tried one at my local music store AND I LOVED IT!!!!! Beautiful natural finish mahogany laminate and a clearer sounding soprano than many sopranos I've tried in the past and/or owned. It's definitely a little jewel. I can get mine for $59.95 and am seriously considering it. Beautifully finished...and for the price, but most importantly, it's sound!! I might end up putting a set of Martin M600 Clear Fluorocarbon strings on it to give it a slightly clearer/bright edge. Did you finally buy one?... :-)

Mario

PS: I made some searches and Mahalo has the same model under U200 instead of UK-201. It's superb! Very well made for the price...you cannot go wrong IMHO. :-)

I do have a Mahalo UK201, and do like it. I sanded down the saddle a bit, and INMHO that improved the sound.

Yes I'm sure. If the action was too high, it helps. :-)

I just bought it and I absolutely LOVE IT!!!!! Excellent construction and great attention to details like you see on much more expensive instruments, beautiful wood laminate natural finish. It's wonderful to behold and hold and playing it is a joy. It's the clearer brighter sounding soprano I had been looking for in a long time. It way well become one of my favorite Soprano uke...and at a VERY affordable price. IMHO not only a wonderful entry level model but also for more experienced ukulele players & lovers & collectors who have been playing for a long time. Or maybe I was just lucky, because some have said it depends on the one you happen to get, each UK-201 model produced, quality may vary from one another. You just have to check it out, but mine was certainly worth it! Cheers!
