Ty Olopai is organizer for the Florida Ukulele Network (FUN) here in...well, Florida and he is presenting a ukulele festival in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, August 28th. I will be performing and presenting a workshop at this event. Below is a link to the festival website and you can also contact Ty for additional information.

This is going to be a great time. Cannot wait to see "bassfiddlesteve" in action! I know that sponsorships and vendor spots are still available, if you want to promote your business or hawk your wares. www.floridaukulelenetwork.org/events.html

I'll be there. Already booked my room for Saturday night at the Bahia Mar Resort. My wife and daughter will be with me to enjoy the beach/pool while I spend the day immersed in all things 'uke. Look forward to seeing you all there.

Cool! Ty reports that Ko'olau is providing a concert and a tenor uke to be raffled off at the Festival! www.floridaukulelenetwork.org/Events.html (http://www.floridaukulelenetwork.org/Events.html)

Darn it - the weekend I'm spending up north. Oh well, I'm sure it will be a blast - take a bunch of pics and vids and post 'em if you can!

ARRRGH! It's my wedding anniversary AND we both have to work AND I'm only 40 miles away. Cruel fate. We both work for the county so no calling in sick, we would both be on the same list.

Well, if any of you Florida ukers can't make it to this event, there's always the Tampa Bay Ukulele Getaway (http://www.tampabayukulele.com) in November!

The inaugural Ukulele Festival of South Florida (http://www.floridaukulelenetwork.org/Events.html)took place yesterday in Fort Lauderdale, FL and it was a very fun time. Steve Boisen of The Barnkickers (http://www.thebarnkickers.com) (our own "bassfiddlesteve") gave a fantastic workshop on the tin pan alley style, and did a wonderful solo uke performance in the evening. Members of the Florida Ukulele Network meetup groups (http://www.floridaukulelenetwork.org/Meet-ups.html) performed, as did an assortment of Hawaiian-style artists. In addition to Steve Boisen, the evening concert included performances by Kahanu’ala, a four-piece band featuring the beautiful lap steel guitar of Lt. Col. Ed Mayer (he apparently wrote the music for SpongeBob!), and the Aloha Boyz (http://www.pacificrhythmsfl.com/), a trio of uke, guitar, and u-bass whose sweet harmonies were a perfect send off.

Kudos to organizer Ty Olopai (http://www.pacificrhythmsfl.com/) and the Florida Ukulele Network (http://www.floridaukulelenetwork.org/Welcome.html)!

Next stop on Florida's uke circuit, the Tampa Bay Ukulele Getaway (www.tampabayukulele.com) in November, hosted by none other than Steve Boisen himself.
