I got an unsolicited PM from "Love671" looking to trade their Kamakas and Custom uke.
This person has Zero forum posts.
...I've forwarded the PM to Admin.

Good point!
...I'm packing up all my ukes to send for the trade.

I received trade requests as well but i just politely declined. I wouldn't have traded anyways b/c of the zero posts thing. The funny thing is that when I originally offered the PS in a trade I received mutiple trade offers from members with zero posts. You have to be cautious.

The scammer who caused the need for rules in the Ukulele marketplace was named babiidrew671

671 is an area code in Guam

So Love671 is either the same guy, or loads of scammers are from Guam

or 671 is his lucky number! for scamming.

Yeah, I'd gotten messaged too from this poster. Made the same decision based on the zero post and pretty much replied as such.

I've not received any such posts. I wonder how he/she targets certain individuals? Could it be just members who have had ads in the UU Marketplace?

i think so. I posted my PS a few months back and the memeber was very aggressive in their pursuit of a trade with me. I just let them know that I no longer had the uke and was then told if I had any ukes to trade let them know. It could be legit. I just don't like to trade with someone unless they have a few post here or someone I "know" stands up for them.

If this is the same scammer as before, If I remember his IP address was from the Seattle area.
He was johnny671 and Guamboy671 or something like that.

Yep. His IP was from the west coast and he wanted to send the uke to Guam.

Man that has been awhile. But let's not jump on this guy like wolves. I hate when we do that(not that anyone has).

It's the same guy. I banned him and his new IP. It goes without saying, but don't do any business with this guy. I'm glad he makes it easy for us by adding 671 to the end of all his account names, though.

maybe we should say that he makes it easy by adding 716 or something similar so that he continues to add 671 to the end???

here is a short part of an exchange I had with him via email. He found an ukulele I was selling on craigslist.

the email was from "Andrew Joseph" andrew_guam@yahoo
keep in mind that I was instantly on to him once I saw his email address(this was after he tried to scam the forums under multiple usernames)
I wanted to get his address in case he succeeded and scammed someone

Me-335 shipped. what's your shipping addy
Him-My shipping address is <censored> ave e, spanaway wa, 98387!
Me-is this your house? is your name andrew joseph? or guam
Him-GUAM! yes its my house!

After this, he emailed me from another email address claiming to be Andrew Guam's accountant working for Bank of America. He wanted me to ship the ukulele before he could send me a payment.

It turns out the email address of his 'accountant' was the same one used to create one of his user accounts here on UU

the whole exchange is like comedy(to me)

one thing that could be done to help make sure scammers can't pm people is make a minimum of posts required before being able to pm. most forums i've been on do this because of this very problem. i think just about every one makes the minimum 10 posts. just a thought.

I know that there are other forums; i.e. golf, guitar, etc., that require some minimum number of posts to sell an item.

I would also support a minimum number of posts before being able to pm someone.

I don't think that is too much of an inconvenience. Also, it may be possible for a moderator to forward or send a pm if on some rare occasion such as identical twins separated at birth find each other on UU and couldn’t make contact due to a required minimum number of posts.

Minimum posts also give UUers a way to get a feel for the person who is contacting them because everyone who posts here demonstrates opinions and at least some passion for ukuleles.

And if someone has 15 or 20 posts trying to get to a minimum, that consist of nothing more than, “Yeah”, “Wow!”, “Great”, “Cool”, “Awesome”, it is a red flag that this person may not really care about ukuleles and UUers and may only be trying to sell or scam something.

No, that's just where all the money comes from. It's apparently a nation full of bankers, generals and state ministers all eager to share their millions with you.

They've also got "child witches" and "fat houses", if you are curious as to what I'm talking about, it's all on YT of course.

I'll look into it. Most of what I know about Nigeria is old stuff, traditional Chinua Acheba-type culture that conflicts with the Nigerian scams of today.
