Hi four strings, I was there yesterday...I only took one picture though, one of me with my ukulele in front of the festival banner. I will have to upload it when I get back home to SoCal. Aldrine is a very sweet, personable guy - next time be sure to stop him and say hi. :)

I was there yesterday, and enjoyed it thoroughly! The weather was perfect, the variety was good and the music was awsome! Some of the special uke highlights for me was watching Herb Ohta Jr, Bryan Tolentino & David Kamakahi do "G Minor Fleas", James Hill do "Billy Jean", and who was that last guy on the program?

Unfortunately, I might have to give up playing the uke because I came down with a serious case of AWJD (after watching Jake depression) lol. Just mesmerizing! He plays like he's from another planet! Anyway, I'll try to pick myself up and play my 3 chord song. :music:

Oh man, you definitely shouldve stopped him. He's a super nice guy and all of the UU staff is really supportive of all of their members. I'm sure he would've loved to talk to you!!

This 40th year festival was the best yet one yet. What a line up! The world's best players in one beautiful location all for free. (One of the highlight's for me was the rare occasion of seeing C&K play.) Danny Kaleikini singing to Ohta-san's playing was also very moving. Roy Sakuma always does a fine job but he'll have a hard time topping himself with this one. Probably the best all around musical performance I've ever seen in Hawaii.
I unexpectedly got a good front seating position early in the day and didn't want to lose it so I didn't get to spend as much time with my ukulele buddies as I would've liked.

As for saying hi to Aldrine, you should have. He's a fun guy. :D

Aloha UU! Thanks for all the great comments on the photo's! Actually I didnt get there early enough to find a proper seat so I sat in front of the seats on the concrete. I tell you it's the most uncomfortable 3 or so hours of my life. BUT, it was worth it! What a fantastic event it was. I have a decent dslr/lens combo so getting close and personal wasn't a problem.

And now, some video's I took of the event. I had to compress it heavily since my bandwidth is poop and uploading would have taken forever. So the quality is so-so. Enjoy!

Fourstrings, thanks a lot for those nice vids.

By the way, Jake's second video is not a new song, it's a theme called "Orange World" from a previous CD.

Alain.

Thank you for the correction Alain! I also seemed to have called Nick Acosta "Frank" for some reason, and someone pointed it out already lol.
If I made any more mistakes someone notice please let me know so I can correct it.
Also, my camera is a Canon 7D which did the photo's aswell as the video.

I had a great time at the festival, and I won the Ko'olau in the silent auction at the Ala Moana gala Friday evening - at least that's what the phone message from Kathy Sakuma told me when I returned to the 916 late last night. I also had a very pleasant visit with John and Noa at the Ko'olau factory in Wahiawa on Thursday morning. I had a chance to sit with the experts and choose scale length, woods, shape (pineapple), and finish for my custom C-100 that will ship around the end of October. Just finished hanging the festival poster on my wall, and look forward to next year - the 41st.
