I am considering getting a cedar top rosewood (or mahogany) body tenor and I was wondering if any of you had done some evaluation of alternate strings for this combination. Bushman, Ohana and Mainland market these Chinese made ukes.

Thanks for your information

I'm not sure what you mean by "alternative strings"? The combination of woods used in making the uke is not quite as important to the quality of the sound as the actual craftsmanship and build. However, Bushman ukes sound lovely with Aquila nylgut strings. I don't know how much of a difference is tone they will make as opposed to something more rare or nonstandard, but they will bring out the full classical-guitar sound out of the cedar top. Also, Ohana installs Aquila nylguts on their higher-end ukes.
