A baritone would be your best bet for sounding more guitar-like, but with a tenor I would suggest low-g tuning.

used to have a bari but i ended up selling it, it does sound like a guitar but i can't make it into gcea tuning n it doesn't have any pick up, low-g tuning what does that sound like? can u give me a link so i can hear it

New strings...

...steel strings would do it, wouldnt it? It would just sound like you were playing up high on your guitar....maybe.

What would steel strings do for the bridge and fretboard? I mean, couldn't there be too much tension? Not as much give as nylon strings?

I'd say Low G and perhaps a Wound C. Some of this will also depend on the uke itself.

UU's own russbuss with a tenor strung low g, GCEA from lowest to highest instead of the g being an octave higher.

I have my baritone tuned low gcea (ukuleleworld.com sells a gcea made set for baritone and I stole the low wound G off of a regular bari set) and when I play, people think it's just a little guitar. It sounds great and is really nice for ballads.

Consider an electric uke. My Eleuke plays like a tenor but sounds much more like an amplified nylon-stringed guitar.

ahah that's good it doesn't sound like the normal uke, the normal uke sounds too hawaiian i don't think the pastor will approve of me using it.

now all i need to do is get a uke,all im willing to spend is 300 down, this are what im looking at
