I never really had a desire for a banjo uke but that sure is pretty. Just may have to con... sid...er..... No, must repeat to myself, "I don't need one, I don't need one, I don't need one...." but then I may accidentally end up with two.

what kind of a tone ring does it have? A brass ring or just plain wood?

I think it has to do with the style of playing, I think lots of banjo players like an open back.
