SOLD!
You may know that we're adopting. We hope to have a little boy from Russia by Wintertime. So I've got to make room in my closet for our new family member's clothes! Therefore, I'm selling some great ukuleles, a couple which I never thought I'd part with.

But things change. We need the space. And the money!

Here is info on the ukulele:

Unknown Japanese model - 1950's or 1960's:
This Mahogany ukulele looked like it had never been played when I bought it. In fact, it still had a tag on it telling how to tighten the friction tuners. When I played it, I found out why - the nut was way too high! But I simply sanded it down and the result was one of my best-sounding ukes! I played it alot after putting Aquila nylgut strings on it. Here's videos as I compare it with other ukes (It's labelled "Unknown brand" in the video):

I love the fretboard! It is painted to look like woodgrain. And the "inlay dots" are plastic discs glued onto the uke. But don't let that fool you - It sounds great! Some days I prefer this one to my Martin! I put new tuners on this one too!

Why buy a new Johnson uke for $45 - $50 bucks when this one sounds infinitely better for the same price? :)

I might be able to find someone who'd want this ukulele. Bear in mind I live in the UK, would that be okay?

Can you combine shipping in any way if I buy 2?

I want to get your blue uke for sure, and if there is any way to save a dollar or two if I buy two, I will take this one as well. Let me know what it would be to ship both ukes to Los Angeles, and I will pay you speedy quick. I teach kids in LA, and it is the end of the school year and parents want to buy their kids their own ukes. I am trying to hook a few kids up with a little better than the entry level.
Thanks,
Bill

Are you selling these to the kids or giving it to them?

student ukes

I provide them with a mahalo during the school year, and now some of the parents want to buy their kids their own ukes. I have subsidised one student's purchase, but for the most part, if I find a deal, I offer my price to them ( I am not making a profit-and I can't afford to buy the world a uke, but I wish I could). I bought my class ukes at McCabes in Santa Monica, and they have extended a discount to my kids if they purchase their own too. One of my students just bought an Ohana from McCabes this morning.

If these are going to kids who really can't afford a decent ukulele of their own, I'll pay for half if you buy both.

You are awsome!

Yes, I teach in Hollywood, and my school is nearly 100% receiving free lunch. We are title-1, and all the students are pretty poor. If you really wanted to contribute, I will contact you as soon as the seller gets back to me. This is my first full year with the class set of ukes, and it is so great to see how turned on some of these kids are. My uke students seem to practice more and harder than my guitar students.
Mahalo!

Thanks Deach!

Thanks for showing me how to get this done. I have browsed this board for quite some time, but just finally joined to reply to these posts, and wasn't sure how things worked. Your generosity has overwhelmed me, and I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you someday!
Ukisociety--PM me with your paypal info and I will pay the 2nd half!

You guys are AMAZING!!!
Is it still possible for more of us to join in and help??
For example...I'll be happy to help lighten the load of the first two guys by splitting this into "Thirds" instead of each of you paying 1/2. Just let me know where to paypal the money!
Maybe if we get more members involved, we can even add some instruments!
The more of us help, the more kids can benefit, and ultimately, the less each of us are impacted financially, as in my offer....what do you think?
Please let me know!
Richard

Works for me. - $34 each

Dudes,

You all amaze me. I'm deeply touched by your generosity. I sent misteruke the total, which is less than what deach figured ($88), UNLESS he decides to add a third uke, a Kingston, which I didn't have time to post here yet. Here's the email I sent him:

I just thought:

I haven't put up my final uke on the board yet. Perhaps you'd be interested:

It's a "Kingston" mahogany uke, much like the Decca, except not as pretty. Plastic fret board and sounds very good. Much better than those new Johnson models at the $50 range. Here are some pics:

Price: $30
If shipped with the other 2, add $5 to shipping (they would have to be in a bigger box)
Total for 3 ukes, including shipping: $123. If Paypal, add $8.

I say YES. The more, the merrier. $44 each works for me. Guys, let me know.....

I am touched!

Hey guys, I will take you up on your offers.
Alan, I will take all three.
I have already sent you $55 through paypal. That should cover my third and any paypal costs and postage issues that come up.
If the other two pay $40 each we should be good to go.

There aren't enough words to tell you all how proud I am to be a part of this community. Teaching uke is already the part of the week I look forward to and prepare for with the most enthusiasm. I remember when they first started to get kind of good, hearing the kids that arrived to school early teaching each other stuff in the hall outside my room while I was walking up the stairs. All of my students were 4th graders this year, so they will all be back in Sept. I can only imagine how good they will sound on these instruments fueled by the spirit of support you are giving. If the instruments arrive before the end of school, I will see if I can make a thank-you video for youtube (if parents say its ok)
Mahalo,
Bill

Who gets which uke?

I just wanted to add that if a youtube thank you doesn't work out, I will definitely post a photo of the kids getting their ukes on the board here. Now the hard part of deciding which lucky three get them...
