Yes I agree that it looks like a Mandolin as well. A pretty wacky one at that.

Looks like one of those middle eastern instruments...very nice though..
wonder if it has a high tone??? HMM MM Stan...

Looks like a lute to me but I'm no expert either. That bridge looks movable and should be slid way down on the body not over the sound hole.

Sure looks like a mandolin or a mandola.

certainly looks like a member of the mandolin family, but with the bridge in very much the wrong place.

The mando family progresses in size like the viol family. A mandocello is closer in size to a full-sized guitar.

The specs on the ebay link say it is 24" long by 8" wide. I just measured my Gibson mando and it is 26" long by 10" wide, so this thing is smaller than a regular mandolin.

The bridge is definitely out of place, but the tailpiece looks typical of a mando. It's hard to tell from the angle of the pics, but the neck appears to be disproportionately short.

Found a thread over at Mandolin Cafe with similarly odd-shaped orange blob around the soundhole (a pickguard maybe). The tailpiece looks the same.
