I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but you couldn't catch me dead holding this uke!

it is weird mate. When I first saw it yesterday all I could think of was a back-view of someone going to the toilet!

It looks like a clover! "Dude, I play a clover uke." Not my thing, but somebody's got to make a statement.

The dead goose and Mary statue in the BG only add to its charm.

Yes I bought it! But don't hold back it's uglyness is it's charm
anyone care to guess how old it is based on it's hardware?

It's a good thing they added that third coconut at the top.

It's the Fender-style headstock that ruins it for me =\

Even with the 3rd nut it's still too phallic for my conservative tastes. :D

It could be worse it could be made with two coconuts and a gord :)

That was my sentiment also.

Congrats on getting it Keef, I find it very funny yet strangely cool that you bought it.

Here's the way I look at this someone a long time ago took a good amount of time to make this and from what I can see it looks like they did a good job. I'm sure they wanted to make something that no body else had or maybe it was made to sell to tourists who knows? Anyways it has probably been sitting in a closet or hanging on the wall unplayed for many years . Is it strange? Yes is it akward? Yes
if it wasn't we wouldn't be talking about it.
This uke is so akward it's funny I can't wait to show up at a meet up or my lessons with it
a true coversation piece if I get it in time I will take it with me to the uke fest in fortlauderdale .
Not a chick magnet but good for a laugh :)

The largest coconut in the world is the Coco-de-Mer a species found only in the Seychelles Islands. The nut gets to be 14 to 18 inches on length. A couple years back I thought this would make a great coconut 'ukulele body but one look at that unusually shaped nut turned me off to that idea.

Some people find the pineapple 'ukulele to be hideous but I love um! ;)

It was 3 or 4 in the morning and I woke up for some reason and decided to cruise UU and this thread was only about 3 posts at that point . I thought it would be funny to buy this uke and once I got it take a bunch of pictures of it and start a thread about how awesome my new custom uke is like it's the greatest find of the century :) but I couldn't wait that long and I had to tell you all that I bought this ugly Betty right away :)

I feel like the uke should be really pretty...But somehow it's just not. If you described it it might sound like a good idea, but as Keef put it, it is rather awkward. xD
Very unique, anyway.

This bridge is a true work of art in it's self made with the same exotic wood that can be found on window molding at home depot Then painted with black model paint no dought to shield unsuspecting onlookers from it awesomeness . Please note the highly inventive use of 30lb fishing line throughout it's range and how it's brilliant inventor installed the strings from under the soundboard thus making impossible for you to ever install the wrong strings because these strings can never be replaced

getting a lot of action is usually a good thing, but this uke gives WAY too much lol. so, as for replacing the strings, it can't be done? i know on some ukes, the strings are routed through the soundboard (see this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mU42wHlS-NY) on how to do that--he does several ukes, one has the strings threaded through the soundboard)

I will just come out and say it this thing it total junk the way I look at it I have two choices
1. Hang it on the wall and go on with my life
2. Re engineer it with a new bridge assy. Fingerboard frets and nut

Keef

I didn't notice that the fret board was radiused but you are right. The sound board is radiused too :)

You are teh funnay! :)

Can the thing even be tuned if all the strings are the same size??

But as far as stringing thru the soundboard, someone else posted recently about a uke they acquired that was strung that way and someone posted instructions on how to do it.

Keef
08-30-2010, 03:37 PM
I tuned each string to high G tuning
but when I try and make a chord I don't reconize the sound at all
now about restringing it .... The knots under the sound board are contained in the bottom two coconuts and their is no path there from the sound hole :)

In the last picture you posted, it looks like you already have a place to hang it. I would probably make a nice 13 knot noose to hang it from though.

The open spot on the wall is where my Sceptre normaly hangs but it has been packed up and sent to Hawaii for a SPECIAL adventure ( not to KoAloha or any ukulele dealer ) but I will give more info on this once it comes back !!
.
Ukudaily had a good idea just hang the sucker !!!! :)

If you gotta lower the action might as well change the bridge to a more modern orthodox style making string changes easier as well and improving the action.

Well not only was this uke ugly but it sounds really really bad The good news is my sister thinks it's good wall art so I sent it to her in Cleveland where it can spend another 20 years on a wall

With what little I could see of this uke, it looked familiar to me... At our Schenectady Ukulele get together last month, one of the participants was a young man whose grandmother had sent him a ukulele she bought in the Philippines. Body was two half-coconuts, tuners were a single piece geared... It wouldn't tune up - Ron Gordon tried, and noticed that the tuner mechanism wasn't attached properly to the wood.

If I'd known about this thread earlier, I probably could have made a better identification.

But then, I am a newbie.

(Sorry, couldn't resist an accordian joke.)
