I need a good luthier in the Los Angeles area to do some repair work.

I have two soprano pineapples, one that needs the frets settled back into the neck and one that needs the top and back reglued to the sides.

Both have a couple bruises and cracks that are stable and just need a little judicious use of glue. I have access to a guitar specialist, he seemed a little bemused by a couple ukes I took to him before, but I expect he would be fine. Just looking for a uke specialist.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Hi Teek, Matt at McCabe's (http://www.mccabes.com/index.html) in Santa Monica is definitely accustomed to ukuleles. Fortunately I haven't had to have any of mine repaired, but I've heard nothing but good things about his work.

I wrote to Matt a couple years ago, I know they are expensive and may have a long wait, but thanks for the rec! I just blanked on them, lol.

Probably because I was thinking more along the lines of a builder who would be all set up for the one that is in pieces, but I'll talk to him about that uke too. He would likely have a line on someone.

I appreciate the help. :)

I have used Glenn Harrison on Dan "Soybean" Sawyer's recommendation. He is good, reasonably priced, and knows ukes. I know others from the uke club have used him too.

I know Glenn, spent an hour going over a couple ukes and talking about guitars and he showed me one he was working on, a famous blues guitarist's form the 20s-40s. The fingerboard had six ruts all the way down!

I didn't get the feeling that he was interested in ukes at all, but was impressed by the guitars he had in the shop for repair. He was my other choice. I feel the price would likely be better than McCabe's.

Thanks!
