painting ukulele's

if you painted on a ukulele would it ruin the sound? For example a fluke

A lot of people have custom-painted ukes, including Flea/Fluke soundboards. I have a painted Fluke and it sounds just the same as the regular one I had before. The paint on it is rather thick, too, so I'm surprised there's no loss of volume.

If you do a search, you'll come across some threads about this subject. If you want to paint a Fluke, I think it's a great idea! They are ideal for adding your own personal touch.

I put alot of texture acrylic on a uke (layers) and then I put a soundhole decoration on. The sound on my cheap Mahalo really lost alot of tone. It was a thin hollow sound. I'm gonna take off the soundhole cover I put on and see what difference it makes.

It seems if you don't put too much layers on, you can maintain the tone of the uke. Lots of paint layers, texture, and coatings and then any decorative soundhole covers seem to make the sound more shallow.

THere is nothing wrong with having a shallow uke sound if you just use it for practice and "for fun".
