Off count intros

I used to hate dealing with intros that started on the 3 or 4th beat. It used to mess me up.

But now I see it as a means to get all aspects of the song started at the same time.

I didn't want to have to count 1, 2, 3, 4; but if James Hill says he has to do it, then I'm sure it can only help.

I guess that's the problem with self teaching. We'll take shortcuts without paying the dues and hope we don't have to study the fundamentals.

I think they're called pick up notes. Many songs rely on them to get into the rhythm of the piece.

Yes, you are right. They are pick up notes.

I noticed I had a terrible time starting tunes and I'm gonna see if these pickup notes help out.

My first use of them was copying James Hill' workshop cover of Sheik of Araby.
