A long-awaited package arrived today.

I received an Oscar Schmidt OU280SWK... that is their top-of-the-line, solid koa ukulele with Grover tuners, abalone inlay and the "Tree of Life" inlay up the neck. This ukulele is a looker. It has a quiet voice, but it sounds sweet. It will be louder when it opens up.

I will be reviewing this ukulele in the next issue of Ukulele Player Magazine and this one is going into my personal collection, too.

Oscar Schmidt are made in Indonesia.....I not sure but I've heard on the island of Java....

Congrats on you new ukulele....I have the two cheaper models, the Mahogany Laminate OU2 and the Koa laminate OU5....
I llike the sound of the OU2 better and it is my daily player even though It's less than half the price of the OU5 at 55.00 -60.00
They both have good tone except the OU5 has a muffled sound and not quite as loud as you're experiencing in yours..
But it has the plastic binding and the abalone purfling...not bad for 139.00...I see you got the excellent case with the
plush interior too...I thought the new ones had foam covered material....mine has the plush immitation fur and it's nice..
I've been telling everybody here it's the best case I have....As for my OU5, I had it over 2 years and it still didn't open
up yet...they are however well worth the money..
Yours looks awesome, especially the inlayed fretboard...Wow...I believe they are the best bang for the buck....
My ou5 and yours look almost alike except yours is solid wood and the inlayed neck and abalone stripe in the middle
back, the rest looks the same even with the same binding, purfling and grover tuners...
Thanks for sharing, both of mine I use adjusted tunings, one 1 step and the OU2 1/2 step...

Several of the top-line "professional series" are made on the Island of Java. The wood is genuine Hawaiian Koa, not a sibling species. This is actually a very nice ukulele. Oscar Schmidt put everything into these to make sure that they are first-rate. No, they are not Moore-Bettah ukes, but they do warrant a serious look.

I will do a video with this ukulele to give you some idea of the tone. My wife said that this is the most beautiful ukulele that she has seen face-to-face. Maybe she did not see the Peter Hurney Pohaku concert uke I had here for the magazine review... or maybe its the high-gloss finish.

Gotta agree. My slot head Pono mahogany was made in Indonesia and its gorgeous!
