I've been interested in the Ovation acoustic-electric soprano.
I've been hearing some mixed things about them though.

It appears that the older Korean-made models were brilliant, but people have been unhappy with the newer Chinese-made models.

If I was to buy one, it seems likely i'll end up with a Chinese one.
So I would like to ask, how bad/good is the Made in China Ovation?
What are the issues?

Is it that the acoustic sound is bad? Or is the whole thing badly made?

I have a Korean tenor by Ovation. It sounds good w/o amplification but sounds great with an amp. Sometimes it takes the Chinese a while to get it right. I have a bunch of ukes and violins from China and can't complain. They really don't do set ups well. I think they rely on the person or store that buys the instrument to do the set up right. I haven't had problems with uke set ups but fiddles are a different story.

I tried out an Applause soprano the other day at Sam Ash. It played well enough, but sounded like crap acoustically. :( Even the Makala dolphin sounds significantly better unplugged. But plugged in, it's pretty good! You're mostly paying for the electronics. If you can find one for a good price, give it a shot.

Love mine, it's the canine's sphericals!
