Ii'm so low I can't cope with constant shoulder dislocations it's turning mei into a very sad man I keep crying please help to cheer me up

Sorry about your shoulder. When I tore some muscles in my leg recently, it helped me to remember as I was limping around that there are people who've lost one or both of their legs, and although mine wasn't working too well at the time, at least I still had it.

If that doesn't help, there's always this:

Watch some comedy on Youtube to help pass the time. Sorry you hurt. That's not fun.

I'm sorry you're in pain. I do know how that feels as I have a chronic pain condition and have both good days and bad days...try to take your mind off it, play your Uke if you can manage it, if not, think about other things, like someone said, watch YouTube Comedy to pass the time and I hope you feel better soon...

Aloha Raecarter,
Sorry to hear about the pain....must be hampering your uke playing, which is a bummers...
I know all too well about pain, especially constant pain and you can't sleep until you pass out..
I hope you feel better, take care and God Bless....MM Stan....

Thanks stan I have dislocated it probably 50 times I'm staging a sit down protest tomorrow if they don't offer me an operation

Here's a couple of thoughts from a doctor..

1. Recurrent dislocations hurt less and less, as a rule. Once those ligaments are torn, the d/l is pretty effortless, as you've discovered.
2. I can't see how you'd dislocate your shoulder playing your 'ukulele, unless you're trying to pull some stunts and play it behind your back or over your head. :p

I recently broke my left wrist. This has seriously interfered with my 'uke playing. There's always something worse, isn't there?

Sounds like you're headed for some surgical intervention. You have my most sincere wishes for a successful procedure and quick recovery. ..and you should be able to play your 'uke then as well, at least to some degree.

The surgical procedure involved is routine and not too invasive. From your avatar, I'm presuming that you're a young man, certainly under 40, so go for it while age is on your side.

Best of luck to you.

jeff

EDIT: I (too late) noted your comment about demanding surgery. You're on the right track. Remind your doctor(s) that recurring dislocations can lead to joint damage, which can be prevented with surgery. Again, best of luck to you.

Hi! You might want to think about seeing an orthopedist. Back in my running days (35+ miles/week) I suddenly started having my ankle bones dislocate and pop in and out. Then my big toes joint would pop out and back in with every step. Shoulder has been less of a problem. A while back I swung my arm back to do a backstroke swimming and my arm just kept going. My Daughter put her foot on my side and pulled it back in.
Anyway... after 7 other doctors and being told everything from 'You have kidney cancer' to you're a hypochondriac and over 300 blood tests. I ended up at an orthopedist, who bent my fingers over backwards and a few other things and took all of maybe five minutes to figure out I had Ehlers Danlos syndrome. It explained every symptom I had. It's a genetic disorder that makes your connective tissue abnormally stretchy and elastic leading to dislocations.
The good news I guess is that as you get older most people stiffen up, we just get more normal :)
Bottom line iis that's a lot of dislocating, there may be another cause that a specialist may be able to find. As I found out, finding that one doctor with a clue can sometimes be difficult. Don't give up! Anndd maybe a nice wide comfy strap would help with the Uke issues :)

Thanks you two unfortunately I have multidirectional instability so it cannot be pinned for me i would like my tendons tightened i've read some peoples lining of their socket is too large leading to the arm not sitting in fully. I feel depressed knowing it's a high probability i'm going to have to endure this excruciating pain more in my life

Hey, sorry to hear about your dislocation. I've never had such a major injury before, just the ankle sprains (which has resulted in a permanently swollen ankle, but I think it's due to basketball), but I've had a friend who dislocated her shoulder, and she started wearing some sort of guard that restricted movement, but was still comfortable enough to play the game, perhaps you might want to consider that to prevent dislocating your shoulder too often!

Hey Rae,

Do you have any sports physio guys/girls nearby?

We have a number who look after our football teams (Rugby League) and even though most strapping books say you cannot strap to stop a dislocation I have seen these guys do just that!

Just a thought for the short term until you can get it fixed up propper.

So sorry that you are dealing with so much pain... I hope for you that the dr's find some solution, the shoulder and rotator cuff are painful when injured and take so much work to heal...sure hope that you can find a solution. In the mean time try to focus on the positive things in your life. (believe me I KNOW it's easier said than done) Hang in there. Sending positive thoughts for your healing!

Thank you everyone for your kind words i've been to the fracture clinic I'm off for six weeks waiting for an mri scan now. I have a comfy sling that is strapped around my waist so it cannot move at all. I'll just have to see how it goes. Your kindness is greatly appreciated

Are you able to play the ukulele? It sounds to me like no? I feel for ya. Take care.

Not currently sukie no :(

Didn't think so if it's your shoulder.

How about sudoku? 'Course nothing wrong with spending the day on UU. Maybe you should check out the Ahnko Honu thread. That'll keep you occupied. Start with chapter one. I think we are on chapter 5 now. Over 150,000 posts to catch up on. We'd love to have you stop by.
