I am trying to play a song with a G/F# in it, but I'm not sure what the slash means or how to play it. Does that mean I can play a g or f# or is it another note? Thanks for the help!

It's called a slash chord and the second chord is the bass note. You can usually get away with just playing the the first chord in this case, G. Here's an old thread asking the same question.

If you really want to keep the F# in there, even though it won't be the lowest note, then play a Gmaj7 (0222).
