I just did a string change on my Kelii tenor.
I was using Hilo tenor strings with a wound C.
I decided to try the Pro Arte hard tension classical guitar strings as I have heard these are used by 'Jake Shimabakuro' and others.
I opted to keep the Hilo wound C string as I prefer wound to unwound.

I gotta say a much prefer the Hilo's on this uke. Much mellower and controlled tone really brings out the 'sing' in the wood. The Pro Arte's are quite bright to my ears and I am hearing more string than wood ( if that makes sense ). I feel more of the instrument when using the Hilos, the Pro Arte's are loud and bright, but they do not seem to 'connect' with this uke. Does any of this make sense......lol....??

BTW: I will try to add a Aqulia string comparison sometime too

I've ( hopefully :p ) added a couple of short video links for comparison. Dont knock the 'serious look' playin' , I'm just learnin' the song....lol.

Having said all that, I'm am gonna leave these Pro arte's on for a while and see if they warm up a bit, could be the 'new string' brightness that is skewing my perception.
