I was in Dallas for a couple years. They have quite a few ukulele players up there. I am guessing there are a few in Houston too. Just got to look around. Try some of the other mainland forums. (Fleamarketmusic, etc)

Here is a link for a uke group in the Houston area that shows to have 61 members.

http://ukulele.meetup.com/41/?gj=sj10

Found it at:

http://www.meetup.com/

There are also uke groups in Dallas and other Texas cities as well. Alas, though, none near me.

I guess that means I will have to start one!

Spam Musubi for the mouth!

Surprisingly, there's a place that sells it here so I don't have to make it myself.

Too bad it doesn't make me a better uke player.

there's the monthly houston ukulele meetup group meetup this Thursday. Any interest?

I've never met with this group before, but I was invited to check them out.

I'm in San Antonio, however if we could get enough UU people together, I would drive that way to attend.

Just came across this thread. I'm actually the organizer for the Houston Ukulele Meetup Group. There are a lot of people registered, but only about 3-7 people show up for the meeting. Probably due to the time, traffic, location. Houston is pretty big, and people are spread out all over from the North side of town down to the Clear Lake Area.

If you get a chance stop by one Thursday.

I anybody wants to get together some other time to jam let me know.

I self-claim (dogs claim it too) that i I suck at ukin' but if you want to hang out after work or anything I am game. My schedule is looking best for Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, or any combo of those days.

What type of place would you be looking for? Cuz Houston has it I'm certain.

Im a new player too, so no worries!

Are you anywhere near here? (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=777+Dunlavy,+Apt.+%23+9107,+Houston,+Texas+77019&sll=29.736061,-95.384674&sspn=0.168434,0.177155&ie=UTF8&ll=29.757299,-95.400896&spn=0.0421,0.044289&t=h&z=14)

Like I mentioned I am completley lost in Houston. Maybe there is a park in the area with some shade trees? Any of those days would work for me.

ya, I go that way all the time (my Monday bar is very close (Shepherd & W. Gray) ), and I don't work too far from I guess that other location.

actually, keeping with your format...i live around here (could also be seen from the UU member map!)
here (http://maps.google.com/maps?daddr=777+Dunlavy+St,+Houston,+TX+77019&geocode=&dirflg=&saddr=Lazybrook+Dr,+Houston,+TX+77008&f=d&hl=en&sll=29.790601,-95.361328&sspn=0.307486,0.44838&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=13)

there are definitely some cool parks in the area, and there are plenty of good eats and whatever. Feel free to use me as your own private Houston Tour Guide...I'll PM you my number too. That way, if you get lost or just need anything you can call me up.

no, i don't work at a bar, but my "Monday bar" as in bar that I goto on Mondays is not far. You are in a great location to get the drink on, which may I add, I am way more accomplished at than the ukulele.

btw, i forgot to PM my number...it's on its way.

i'll bring all my uke gear over to your place then...too bad I don't have an extra amp, we could really annoy the neighbors with the dual electric ukes that I have.

if we decide acoustic and food, I am thinking of a pizza place downtown, and some of the surrounding parks, and probably not as much beer/shots for me this time.

By the way, that Kona Longboard Lager beer is good should you Hawaiians not know anything about that! Lol.

Another guy from my work will be coming over and staying in the corporate apartment with me tonight and I don't think he'd like us taking up the living room.

If you want to meet at the apartment, I can drive us anywhere.

ya definitely, i hope the neighbors didn't mind your electric jam session! That Kamaka sounds sweet plugged in. For your reference, because I know you have an amp aquisition hunger...that was a Line 6 Spider III 15w amp.

quote of the night from you was something like, "I have a hard time finding my G-string"

Bumping this up... are any of you guys still in Houston? I'm a complete n00b with a uke on order, but looking for other Houstonians I can hang out and learn from. I'm down South in Clear Lake, but it's a quick drive to/from the inner Loop, contrary to popular opinion (don't have to pack a lunch or a change of undies for the trip, even). :)

I've also got a 4 year old, though I don't tote him along socially (unless it's appropriate). Just that I have to make plans less spur-of-the-moment so that I can make sure he's looked after while I'm out.
