Anybody actually handled one of these?? Look like the Mainland "gecko" is going to give the Makala Dolphin some competition!

Can't wait to try one out. Mike at Uke Republic is supposed to be getting some in, but Mike AKA Hoosierhiver will have the real "skinny" on them.

I played a prototype when we visited Mainland's shop in August. It was a sweet little uke. I had a hard time putting it down, but Mike and Tookta had so many ukes I wanted to try that day...

We've been so busy, I haven't had time to get good pics yet. We've also got a reggae gecko and chili peppers.

You know...

if the colors were 'bolder' (darker, instead of pastel) and
a gecko was left off the body along with the polka dots,
I'd be willing to wager that ADULTS would buy them for
themselves, along with those pictured for their offspring.

Just sayin'.

For myself, something in Royal Blue or Kawasaki (electric) green, ....

Keep uke'in'

The ones with the bubbles are a little too cute for my taste. Although it would be great to see our forum ukeing maniacs tearing it up on one of them cute ones.

Here's the skinny. They just got in and I haven't even had a chance to play one much yet. Capt'n Lovehandles did a great job on the artwork he's the first to get ahold of one. They have a spruce top and only the finest ABS plastic for the body (that's a joke). They come with GHS strings, but Aquila's improve them dramatically. Don't expect a Mainland solid wood sound, but these things do sound pretty good after a little tweaking and settling in.

Mike, will it be an option to have Aquila's put on at the time of purchase?

No, I think they may give Flea/Flukes some competition!

No, I think they may give Flea/Flukes some competition!

I wouldn't say that. The Flea/Fluke has a larger sound chamber and hence a more bang to them, besides Jim Beloff makes them here in the States and has done alot to spur the current ukulele renaissance.

Do these carry the Mainland brand? It kinda looks like not, which would be a bummer. I like to fly the colors, you know!

Mike, if you'll start making the Chili model in a concert size, I'll buy you a pony. :)

My pudgy fingers don't mix well with a soprano. :(

reggae and lizards two of my favourite things , mike you must have been reading my mind, i nearly got a kala reggae uke, but it never had a gecko on it ( that was a joke btw) i did nearly buy a the kala tho .

I WILL OWN ONE OF THOSE REGGAE GECKO UKES either by post or in person at next years uwc

now all i need is a uke with shark teeth, monkeys up the fretboard with a pineapple shaped head stock

The headstock has a gecko or chili on it, but the label inside says Mainland.

Could have seen these today as I was in Nashville. Tried to stop in, but store was closed. LOVED the signage--Hours M-F and often on weekends. :)

Love the freedom implied in the "often" part. Kinda jealous, actually.

Mike handed me a green gecko at UWC then walked away...I still wonder if I could've tucked it under my shirt and sneaked it out...it sounded real nice for plastic - better than a dolphin IMO (we own three), and I like the dolphin! Of course...I like the dolphin's price better...

Thank you, sir! The Geckos and Dolphins are similar sound and volume. The Geckos have thinner bodies. I like that. That, and the cool design makes me pick the Gecko over the Dolphin.

Knowing how skilled you are at PS, you probably pieced together the sky, land, uke and the individual parts of your body fr that image.
