Painting on a cheap pineapple ukulele?

I'm really keen on doing some painting on a cheap ukulele. I will attempt to replicate the design on a watermelon ukulele.

Problem is, CHEAP used soprano pineapple ukuleles are pretty much non-existent!

I'm pretty sure I'll be forced to purchase a brand new uke for my "experiment".

The two cheapest pineapple ukuleles I can find are by MAKALA and MAHALO.

If I purchase both in the same currency, they're about the same price. So which would be a better choice? Well the tone itself is probably going to be ruined by the paint anyway.

the other one if you can get hold of it is the clearwater one - I got mine off ebay for about £17.50, with a pickup in... (slight damage to the finish - so cheaper than the normal £40). Good luck with this - sounds like a fun project.

I have played the Makala pineapple and was quite impressed with it, as I have been with every Makala I've tried. I have only played a couple of Mahalo's in the painted varieties and they all seemed rather lacking in tone and playability. If they are close in price I would definetly go for the Makala.

Heavily damaged vintage Kamakas can be had for not a lot of coin, and your paint will hide the repairs...

Does anyone have any opinions as to what kind of paint might have been used on the original Kamakas??
Acrylics hadn't been invented yet....

I guess I'll go with the Kamaka then. Or should I just wait and see if someone from the UU community is selling a "heavily damaged" Kamaka?

The clearwater ukuleles are definitely rare! I only see them for sale in the UK.
