Just wondering if anyone has advice on this technique, I can do a palm mute on the down strum.

Umm I strum with my index finger - nail on the down strums, fleshy pad on the up strums (I'm not sure if this is right but it works...)

I always do palm mute up-strums with my index finger. Maybe try moving your hand higher on the bridge so your index finger doesn't have to bend as far. You can also play your chords *on the fret* (instead of in the space) which will get you close to the same sound.

I just don't palm mute on my upstrums. Problem solved! :)

WHat I will do is a mute with my fretting hand (pinkie mute, etc.) on the upstrum. Or, I'll convert the strum so that uses a downstrum at the spot where I want the mute (for example, by moving my strumming hand twice as fast--from an eighth-note rhythm to a sixteenth-note one).
