So I found the chords to Gilligan's Island theme song and was playing it on uke for my kid's the last week. They had no idea what I was singing. (We don't have cable so my kid's haven't seen much TV land or Nick at Nite.) Then yesterday I was at a rummage sale and someone was selling a DVD set of all three seasons of Gilligan's Island. I figured it was a sign.....had to buy them......all 94 episodes for $4.50. What a deal! We are still watching it.......the fact my kids, including my 25 year old, didn't know the show made me feel really old.

So, where are the chords or tabs to one of my favorite shows from when I was growing up? ;)

The lyrics and chords can be found here (http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Shores/5094/). If you haven't been to this site before, it's got mostly local artists. I included the lyrics but the chords placement is way off. I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out. Have Fun!

Wow, I forgot to subscribe to my own post. Didn't know you all had been discussing this. Yes the version I have is the same key as the one kanaka916 posted. It's a toughy. I had found it on alligatorboogaloo.com. I will check out the one on chordie. Funny thing the T.V. show version starts up in the same key as the Dm version, but then modulates each verse, making it even more interesting......Also, if you rent the DVD's, there is a lost pilot on it worth watching. The professor (a high school teacher), Mary Ann and Ginger were all different actors. And the theme song was set to calypso music.

Who's hotter?
Mary Ann recently got busted for pot. And in her mug shot she still looked 25.
Ginger still looks amazing.
As a kid, I always thought Gilligan was cute, but now the Professor trips my trigger.....

You can make Amazing Grace a much more upbeat song by singing it to the tune of Gilligan's Island. Also many poems by Emily Dickenson can be made much less goth with the same trick. The one that sticks in my head is using the Gilligan's Island tune for "Because I could not stop for death, he kindly stopped for me.." :D

Thanks to iambic pentameter, if you find a poem or song with that rhythym, it'll work. :)

Doesn't sound as goo though.Since I read this post this morning, I've been working on the more difficult version and actually it's a really good chord change exercise from Fm to Eb. I like songs like this that have odd chord patterns you don't normally do. Bette Midler's version of Ukulele Lady has great chord changes that really work your brain and fingers....for us beginners. Also, the best version on youtube to watch is the one by Kermit...seriously. He doesn't do all of the verses, but he sings it the best.

"Ukulele Lady" by Kahn and Whiting, performed by Better Midler
Verse 1:

[F]I saw the splendor [C7] of the [F] moonlight
On Hono[Db7]lu[C7]lu [F] Bay
There something tender [C7] in the [F] moonlight
On Hono[Db7]lu[C7]lu [F] Bay

[Dm] And all the beaches are full of peaches
[Am] Who bring their 'ukes' along
[F] And in the glimmer of the moonlight
They love to [G7] sing this [C7] song

Chorus:

If [F] you [Am] like-a [Dm] Ukulele [C7] Lady
[F] Ukulele [Am] Lady like-a you [Dm] [F]
If [Gm] you [C7] like to linger [Gm] where it's [C7] shady
[Gm] Ukulele [C7] Lady linger [F] too
If you [Am] kiss a [Dm] Ukulele [C7] Lady
[F] While you promise [Am] ever to be [Dm] true [F]
And [Gm] she [C7] see an [Gm] other Uk [C7] ulele
[Gm] Lady fool a [C7] round with [F] you

[Bb] Maybe she'll sigh
[F] Maybe she'll cry
[G7] Maybe she'll find somebody else
[C] Bye and [C7] bye

To [F] sing [Am] to [Dm] When it's cool and [C7] shady
[F] Where the tricky [Am] Wicki Wackies [Dm] woo [F]
If [Gm] you [C7] like a [Gm] Ukulele [C7] Lady
[Gm] Ukulele Lady [C7] like a [F] you

Verse 2:

[F] She used to sing [C7] to me by [F] moonlight
On Hono [Db7] lu [C7] lu [F] Bay
Fond mem'rys cling to [C7] me by [F] moonlight
Although I'm [Db7] far [C7] a [F]way

[Dm] Someday I'm going where eyes are glowing
[Am] And lips are made to kiss
[F] To see somebody in the moonlight
And hear the [G7]song I [C7] miss

Chorus

Too Cool! I'll try it along with the show tomorrow when my kids are watching yet another episode. I think were at episode #52. (Never thought I'd get tired of that theme song.)

Since finding this song, I have half heartedly been looking for other theme songs....Green Acres, Mister Ed, etc....anyone have any ideas where to find these and others?

I had no idea it was so easy to change the key of a song until my uke teacher showed me this....now all you advanced people don't laugh and go away, this is for us dumb newbies.....

If you have a song in the key of C, and you want it in the key of F

write this out- C D E F G A B
and this under-F G A B C D E

To change the key, a C is now an F, a D is now a G etc....if you've got 7th or dim, etc. just add them to the new key also. This works with any key to any key.

Thanks! I put that this was in the key of D and transposed it to A and that is much easier to sing and not hard to play. Here it is again starting on Am. I changed all the A#m to Bbm to make it easier for me to remember.
