Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for an electric pickup for a cigar box ukulele. I've seen a wide variety on the internet, but I can't say I really know too much about them. I was wondering whether to go with the relatively cheap transducer mic style on like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Pickup-Transducer-Mandolin-Guitar-Ukulele/dp/B0017VQXKC

Or the more expensive under-the-saddle style pickup like this one:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1KHV9Z8B1K21Q84WBNFE

It's not the price that has me wondering but really the quality of sound they will produce. They both sound reasonably easy to install. Does anyone have experience with this or thoughts?

Thank you,
Ken

For my Cigar-box-uke I made a pickup using a Piezo buzzer, a voulume control and a JAck out-put, it sounds reletively good, was very cheap to make, and It increased my skill in soledering (which really was pretty much zero) search around a bit, i saw a good tutorial here: http://cigarboxguitars.com/resources/workshops/piezo-transducer and this helped me, so you could try that?

Go to Radio Shack and get a piezo buzzer. Part number 273-0073.
You can use it as it is ... I have with good results.
Better results can be had by CAREFULLY removing the piezo element ..... the gold disc inside the black casing ..... and just using it.
On a cigar box instrument, just put it on the inside of the lid, directly under the bridge. I attach it to the lid with hot glue ... this helps with feed back and also mutes some of the handling noise.
Works great.
