What's a Pitchpipe?

It's a tuning device that you blow into that gives you the GCEA notes that the ukulele strings need to be tuned to. It's got four "pipes" and each is tuned to the pitch of one of the strings, so if you blow into the G pipe, then you can tune your G String. Probably the cheapest way of tuning your uke - usually only cost about $4, and sometimes come free with the uke.

It's a harmonica, with the same pitches as the strings on your uke. Just match the sound of the corresponding string on your uke to the same pipe on your pitchpipe. I wear a tiny harmonica, in the key of C, on a necklace. I tune the C string to the bottom C and then "My Dog Has Fleas" tune the rest, when I'm not near a chromatic tuner. Ric
