View Full Version : From Mrs. Pippin: News About Pippin

Pippin
12-09-2010, 02:42 AM
Hi everyone. It's "Pippin's wife. I promised Mickey (aka "Pippin") that I'd let you all know that he didn't fall off the edge of the world but indeed is absent from his computer because he's in the hospital.

It's been a long week, but to summarize: Mickey was admitted on Friday, Dec. 3 for rectal bleeding. He had a colonoscopy on Monday. A tumor was found. Tests ensued… and he had surgery yesterday to remove a part of his colon where the nasty tumor resided. He is in recovery now. We had good news from the results of the CAT scan, X-rays, and bone scan. All were clear. (Praise God!) They took some lymph nodes from around the area where the tumor was and will be testing them. So that's our next hurdle. If you're the praying sort (I'm Catholic and yes, am busy praying my novenas..) please keep Mickey in prayer. It has, as you might imagine, been a trying time for both of us. Yesterday was our ninth wedding anniversary and I simply gave thanks to God that we were together and that the surgery went well. :-)

On a lighter note, Mickey insisted that I bring one of his ukuleles to the hospital on Tuesday and intended on giving one to a nurse who tried to play guitar years ago but her fingers couldn't get around the neck. I'm thinking, "Hon, when on earth are you going to strum your uke? Somewhere in between the blood pressure check and temperature-taking?" He makes me laugh in so many ways but this one really cracked me up. And it showed how the uke is always on his mind. :-)

He wanted me to let you all know that he fully intends on getting another issue of Ukulele Player Magazine out this month. He'll be on short-term disability for a few weeks, probably until the first week of January. He still will be drawing for a uke giveaway, also. You may see me (Mary Rose) a few more times as I respond to folks and act as Mickey's "Gal Friday." He loves this community more than you can imagine and misses it terribly. Meanwhile, let's hope for a quick recovery, a clean slate health-wise, and many more ukulele and guitar posts from our Pippin.

Thanks so much and if you'd like to write to me personally, feel free: maryrose@scrapshotmagazine.com

Dear Mrs. Pippin --

Thanks for letting us know. I wish him a speedy recovery. Tell him to take care, rest up and get the issue out when it's best or him, not for us.

Hi Mary Rose

I am a Christian too and therefore partial to a bit of prayer! Very much appreciate you letting us know about Mickey's health problems. He is a much loved and respected member here.

Really pleased for you both that the operation went so well yesterday, and that tests are clear so far.

We will be upholding you both in prayer.

God Bless, Jon.

Thank you for the post. I have a friend that went through the exact same procedure six years ago and is cancer free and doing quite well. My wife had breast cancer last year and a double mastectomy and is cancer free and doing well. My point is believe and rely on your faith as he will come out of this just fine. His attitude and spirit is 90% of the battle. Sounds as though he has an abundance of that!!! Keep us posted. And you are in our prayers. Lozark

Colon cancer is something that runs in my family, so I am well aware of the affects it can have on everyone involved. I will be praying for the both of you.

As far as the ukulele in the hospital goes, I think that history has shown us that a positve outlook is tantamount in the recovery from any kind of illness. And what better to keep everyone's Aloha spirit up than playing a sweet souinding uke! Hang in there Mickey.

Thanks Mrs Pippin for letting us know how he's doing! Mickey contributes so much to the Ukulele community and our thoughts are with you both. Hope all goes well with the tests, and he can go home and convalesce with his ukuleles. They are the best play-in-bed recovery instrument, I think. Let him know there is no pressure on getting the Ukulele Player Magazine out on time... we can wait a little longer if need be. We just want him to rest up and have a full recovery as soon as possible.

I am happy to hear that the results are positive, my father just went through prostate cancer, and it can be really tough not knowing what will happen. I'm also very glad to see that his spirits are well. He is a smart man and knows that the ukulele has healing powers =)

The best of wishes to you both, and I will be sending good vibrations your way via my ukulele.

You two seem immensely positive, and that seems to be one of the real keys. I'm sure ukuleles really do speed recovery. Does anything boost morale more than our little 4-stringed friends?

Take care, and remember, Mary, you're going through something, too. I think it's easy to forget that.

Be well and happy.

Oh my gosh, I'm both shocked and heartened, the surgery is tough but what awesome attitudes you both have! What a blessing the both of you must be for those you love and who love you, and also for the good news that the doctors feel they got it all.

Thanks for letting us all know, because the more prayers sent your way the better, there is tremendous power in concentrated prayer sent with love. Science has proved this but for those of us who've seen prayer in action we have all the proof we need. And here we all know the power of the mighty uke to heal.

Adding my prayers for a swift recovery for Pippin and for strength and ease for you.

Sorry to hear your news of Mickeys illness, just want to add my best wishes and a speedy recovery. I was hospitalized this time last year and my wife like you posted my situation on UU and the response of kind hearted replies was overwhelming. I am not a one for prayers but I really do believe that all the kinds words helped me recover, so I really hope it does the same for Pip. Tell him to take his time and get well soon.

Prayers sent, Mickey and Mary Rose. Mickey's love for music is keeping his spirits high during this ordeal. I almost lost my wife to a different medical situation earlier this year, but she's recovered quite well. As for the Ukulele Player Magazine, I'm with Lori. It's OK to put it on the backburner, as Mickey recovers and heals. No rush. No worries. Ric

I arrived home from the hospital.

Here is the Reader's Digest Condenced Version...

Rectal Bleeding, scared to death, visit to hospital ER, Prep for colonoscopy, discovered problem, biopsy, bone-scan, cat-scan, lymphatic biopsy, chest Xrays.

The noma has turned out to be a polyp in the midst of a conversion to a "cancer". Luckily, all the tests came back clear. Bones are good, blood is good. Brain is good.

The tumor was halfway between a polyp and colon cancer. Since it was still in the conversion process, it has not migrated or grown larger in size. My follow-up visits will be scheduled in order to keep close tabs on my health.

Thanks to all for your prayers, well-wishes, and mojo.
Mrs Pippin appreciates all your encouragement and love. It really helped her through this whole situation.
