hey there,

I was wondering if anyone knows a tuning for which I can use the regular strings that sound more closely to the guitar/mandolin.
The reason for this is that I play a lot of flogging molly music with my band (mostly banjo, but I like to throw in some uke from time to time), but the problem with this is that some chords don't sound right with the standard tuning. ie the D chord sounds too low or something :p

Thanks in advance!

Try playing the chords with different, more mandolin-esque, voicings. Here's how I do it:

C 0033 or 0037
D 2225
E 3337
F 2013
G 0235
A 2104
