I saw and heard a Brazilian Cacaquinho being played at my son's performance in Melbourne, Australia and are keen to attempt to build one. It's essentially Ukulele with steel strings, but obviously requires different bracing to accommodate the extra string tension. I'm seeking input from anyone who might assist with further ideas on an effective bracing design, or helpful links to further information to assist building one.

Not quite a build....I wanted to learn cavaquinho but could not buy one. I did get my hands on a really cheap flatback mandolin (made for tension).
I changed the nut and put a 4mm spacer between the nut and leading edge of fret board (altering the scale) then I used 4 mandolin strings tuned D,G,B,D . Any port in a storm...Good clear results. Great as an introduction. However I'm still searching for a nice Brazilian made Cavaquinho at the right price.
