I was on the big island last month and was at the Holualoa Ukelele gallery and came home with a Mark Evans Uke. I didn't know anything about the maker, but the Uke simply spoke to me. I had to buy it.
I was in an email exchange with Chuck Moore and found out that Mark is his next door neighbor and they are good friends. Mark lives off the grid with no phone or internet connection. He hand crafts each Uke custom and his work is fantastic. I got a kamani Tenor setup with Low G and am in love with it. Seems all who see it think its great. I am a beginner so for me it is nice to know I am learning on a quality instrument and all the mistakes are mine not the equipment.
Anyway just wanted to share Mark's name and see if anyone else out there has one of his Ukes. The only thing I can find on the web for him is a couple Youtube clips showing his shop and his home. Check em out:
