Two Problems

I have two problems that are beguiling me. The first is when gluing the bridge on I get small amounts of tightbond on the top by the bridge and can't seem to get it off effectively with the somewhat soft lacquer. I see some guys leave the masking tape on and trim later. It always seemed to me that would show but maybe not? The second I get my nut marked out and when I'm done filing i'm always a little off. This drives me crazy. It may be that I'm not taking enough time here or should I make a jig and use a back saw to start the nut slotting. I'm now able to make a decent looking uke but stumbling right at the finish line.

Remove your squeeze-out while it is still wet. It will come right off the lacquer with a damp rag. I start my nut slots with the xacto backsaw. It seems to give a good slot for the file to bit and will keep it centered where you want it.
