After the British Radio programme.
Castaway has to choose 3 songs one book and one ukulele to be left on a desert island with.

SONGS

Bob Dylan - Desolation Row
Pink Floyd - Jugband Blues
Donovan - Happiness Runs

BOOK

Alan Watts - The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are

UKE

My Flea, as it will stand up to the elements better than most ukes. It'll take a lickin' & I can keep on pickin'.

Dory Previn - Mary C Brown and the Hollywood Sign
Yes - Soon
The Beatles - The Long & Winding Road

Book - Casey the Clumsy Colt

Uke - My new Makala

When Big Joan Sets Up - Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Music For Airports 1/1 - Brian Eno
Paperback Writer - The Beatles

Dhalgren - Samuel R. Delany

Uke? Doesn't matter as long as it plays OK...

For me.
Songs
Africa bamba....Carlos Santana
Huricane...........Bob Dylan
Into the night....BBKing

Book

Wind in the Willows....Kenneth Graham (lots of humanity and comedy).

My Antonio Pinto Carvalho Concert Ukulele with Low G Worth Strings.

Songs:
You Are My Favorite ...... Sophie Madeleine
All My Loving ................ Beatles
Terminal ...................... Rupert Holmes (sentimental pick)

Books:
The Little Prince ............Antoine de St. Exupery
Desert Islands for Dummies

I allowed myself a second book because "The Little Prince" is small and I would have been able to fit it inside my ukulele case.
I suppose it would be cheating to say a loaded-up Kindle with a solar recharger.

Ukulele:
Kala Thinline travel tenor
I was tempted to say a Kamaka tenor (not that I have one yet), but I don't think it would do very well on a desert island

3 songs is the toughest part...my collection has over 90,000
First, the tune that has been made into more other tunes than any other, Satta Massa Gana by the Abyssinians
Second- and I really want the whole record, but the Crane Wife 1 & 2 from the Decemberists would tied me over
Third- and this si the hardest, do I take Western Swing, or go with the Byrds. Byrds it is I think, reminds me of being a kid- My Back Pages.

Book- Grapes of Wrath for uplifting inspiration ;)

Uke- My Maybell- when they find me, I want to be stark raving mad, half starved and naked, and plucking away at some Formby tunes. She also weighs a ton and doubles as a weapon easily.

Moon Comin' Over the Hill - Tab Benoit
Ashes are Burning - Renaissance
How Great Medley

The Bible

Mainland mango tenor

Songs:
Billie Holiday, Lover Man
Beatles, Here Comes the Sun
The Who, Blue Red and Grey
(all subject to change at a moment's notice!)

Book:
Steinbeck, Travels with Charley

Ukulele:
Kamaka Concert
(no surprises there)

1. The Water Is Wide - traditional (Irish)
2. Up On Cripple Creek - The Band
3. When I Get To The Border - Richard & Linda Thompson
(that's for today...tomorrow will be different no doubt!!! )

An Equal Music - Vikram Seth
(plus a pocket Bible to go with me everywhere)

Mya Moe mango soprano

I talked the old ladies at the museum into letting me sit in Rocinante- I nearly wept- love that book. Certainly one of my fondest memories, and so happy another person is taking Steinbeck.

The little ironies of life: I got my graduate degree through a distance education program from the university that is affiliated with the Steinbeck Center. Every time I was actually there in person, the Steinbeck Center was closed for some odd reason or other. I've never seen it!

Steinbeck

JS would have asked for lots of yellow paper and a pencil........

Let us speculate on which songs and single book he would have selected.

Give him the ukulele of your choice.

Small diversion from the original thread...

Songs:
Dock of The Bay. I just love this tune.
Stairway to Heaven. easy to play, and it never gets old
While my Guitar Gently Weeps. I can't even touch it...yet, but it would give me something to work towards.

Book:
Lord of The Flies

Uke:
I'd really like to have a Fluke or a Flea for that trip. I don;t have one yet, but I hear that they are nigh indestructible.

8:05pm, Tuesday (cos all these answers will change in the next 12 minutes)

Songs
1. I'll Be Seeing You - Tommy Dorsey Band with Frank Sinatra
2. A Day In the Life - The Beatles
3. Fourth of July - Ani DiFranco

Book
Meditations, Marcus Aurelius

Ukulele
My new MP custom, because listening to it open up over the next few months would mean the book and songs would sit idly by, and would be a big treat once I was ready for a break.

I see him as a Martin Style 0 kind of guy.

OK...

Hard Rain's A Gonna Fall (but sung by Pete Seeger for a little change up)

Ukulele- My newest one, my Kala Concert Koa Cedar Top

Songs:
Dark Night of the Soul - Loreena McKennitt
Precious Little - Jeremy Spencer

Ooooohh, I'd almost forgotten about Melanie - I might have to replace one of my choices with her "Leftover Wine." It's a darn shame that the only two songs from her that ever got any radio play were "Brand new pair of rollerskates" and that stupid one about a cricket in a matchbox!
