I saw this wood trick and I don't believe this works... can you really fix wood like this?

I'm no carpenter or woodworker, but I've seen some wood that will behave like that (compressable when boiled in water), so I believe it's real.

Priceless - might have drilled the hole a bit truer tho....

I wonder how many of us are going to try it? ;)

That is how that works. Wood gets incredibly pliable when wet and hot. Even further, it works (sometimes) like memory foam. So, soaking it in boiling water will make it soft enough to squeeze and re-hydrating it like that is the best way to get it's shape back.

Now, I've not done this particular trick before, but that is how I have had it described to me.

It only works with certain soft woods. Wide grained spruce would be ideal.

We have an old Gent that is a member of the Cairns Woodworkers Guild who was a high school shop teacher his whole career. He's always bringing in little things like that during meetings to make the others members wonder. Said it was always a good way to keep the kids attention and get them thinking.

I'm going to do that one for the next meeting. I might even get him wonderings. :-)
