Hi guys (and girls),

I'm new here - I just thought I'd pop on and ask for your thoughts on my recordings - ranging from very, very rough demos/sketches to more fully fledged uke/bass/drum 'things' that I play with my band.

It's generally light-hearted/tongue-in-cheek stuff, and I don't profess to be the greatest ukulele player, but hopefully you'll enjoy some of the stuff here:

My Audioboo page

I look forward to your feedback. Be gentle! :D

(edit - I'm at work at the moment so can't access my audioboo page, so I've written that URL from memory - I hope it's right!)

Alright - maybe I should be a bit more specific.

Here's a song called 'Substition', recorded with my band at rehearsal the other day.

Substition

I play a Kala KA-CEM (I think it is...), and I'm a freakish left-hander.

Would love to hear your thoughts. As long as they're not "Give it up. Now." ;-)

I have just listened to Substitution and I found it very entertaining. In fact I loved it.
Maybe one or two minor issues with the recording balance but that could be just my old ears.
(I had to strain to make out some of the lyrics on the lead voice.)
I thought the performance and song writing was of a very high standard.
Well done.Keep 'em coming.

Thanks for listening. Yeah - it's by no means a professional recording - just us messin' around. And that's me singing. I probably lowered myself in the mix cos I'm paranoid about my voice!

And the lyrics are:

Well my car blew up
And my fence blew down
I found five pence
But I lost ten pounds
I stepped on an upturned plug when I was in bare feet.
And now my pen won't write
And my wife just left
I passed a kidney stone
And failed my driving test.
I just can't help but feel I'm having 'one of those weeks'.

And so I smash my mirrors with a baseball bat.
I'm gonna feed my rabbit's feet to a lucky black cat.
I'm gonna stay indoors with my umbrella up.
Strikes me it couldn't be any more bad luck...

I had my dog put down
And my rent put up
I pulled two girls
They only had one cup
I only found the milk was off when I drank my tea.
And so I threw a party
But I caught SARS
I pulled my hamstring
And had to push my car.
I'm starting to think the universe doesn't like me.

(Chorus)

I'm gonna smash my mirrors with a baseball bat.
Feed my rabbit's feet to a lucky black cat.
Stay indoors with my umbrella up.
Strikes me it couldn't be any more bad luck.
I'm gonna walk down the street on every crack I see.
Tunnel my way under a ladder factory.
Tell the Russian mafia how much they suck.
Strikes me it couldn't be any more bad luck.

Would love to hear your thoughts. As long as they're not "Give it up. Now." ;-)
fun songs, if you give something up make it your day job and do music fulltime!:)

Great - the lyrics hang together beautifully.
Look up Krabbers - who is also a member here.
He writes some great light hearted stuff.

Will do, thanks! There's plenty more similar stuff on the audioboo link I posted initially. It's all pretty whimsical.

Yesterday, my brother-in-law and I added some extra instrumentation to a track we recorded live a while back. He laid down some banjo and some weird-fan powered organ thing (you'll hear the vacuum cleaner noise at the end of the song - it's that), and I added a bit of harmonica - I don't really play, but it seemed to suit the song. Ultimately, it's a ukulele led song though, so I thought I'd share it here. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it...

So Damn Rock'N'Roll

Is it me or is there an issue with this link?

There's been an eerie silence in this thread since I posted that link. That's a good thing, right?

(sorry for the shameless bumpage)
