I replaced the stock plastic nut and saddle on my Makala MKC today and what a difference. I know it's a cheap uke but it is my "go to" ( probably because my Kala is in a case and that invovles a little more effort ) I could not believe the difference in the sustain and clarity of the notes...an inexpensive improvement on a £35 uke...worth every penny and the effort of sanding and filing the bone to size.

Aloha DeePeepee,
Thanks for sharing....I like my cheapie and it's my first go to ukulele every day....glad your up grade turned out well...Have fun and enjoy! Happy Strummings...MM Stan

It is true that replacing the saddle and nut with bone will give much better sustain, volume and tone quality. On my guitars I replace the pins as well. Nowadays they seem to use plastic even on the higher end units. Just replace them with bone and you have a much better sounding instrument!
