View Full Version : Bone Nut and Saddle on Makala MKC

I replaced the stock plastic nut and saddle on my Makala MKC today and what a difference. I know it's a cheap uke but it is my "go to" ( probably because my Kala is in a case and that invovles a little more effort ) I could not believe the difference in the sustain and clarity of the notes...an inexpensive improvement on a 35 uke...worth every penny and the effort of sanding and filing the bone to size.

It is true that replacing the saddle and nut with bone will give much better sustain, volume and tone quality. On my guitars I replace the pins as well. Nowadays they seem to use plastic even on the higher end units. Just replace them with bone and you have a much better sounding instrument!

Yes, bone makes a huge difference, I feel its much better then "tusq" which is still just plastic (though i'm sure someone will argue with me).
