Hi All,

What woods do most people use for bridge plates? I have heard people touting both soft and hard woods, and was wondering if there was a general consensus?

I use hardwoods because I usually build with a string through bridge design and I want the increased wear resistance of a hardwood.

yep. I do have thoughts of doing a composite bridge patch with spruce to lighten things up but with something hard enough to resist string wear on the patch itself

Hard wood when the strings go through, spruce when it's a tie block.

Is there a minimum and a maximum you use for thickness?
