my ukulele comparison of my kala exotic mahogany tenor & mainland red cedar tenor . I play the chords to 5 foot 2 and the picking a hymn called Nothing But The Blood . i have played my kala at church with some guys . and it has a muted sound . it is a great uke . but if you are going to play in a band a mainland with a pick up would be best . i think kala ukes are great starter ukes . my 1st uke was a Oscar Schmidt OU2 Concert Ukulele it is ok but if i could do it over i would go kala. both Mainland and Kala make great ukes I recommend both of them .
